Establishment History
By the end of the 70s, there were numerous appeals from the people, especially from poor families or those who were less fortunate and those had to undergo immediate perforated heart surgery overseas.
Their appeal has been submitted to government bodies and some are published in local newspapers to attain people’s compassion. Unfortunately, this appeal was not responsive appropriately; maybe it was beyond the job scope of the government departments or private agencies.
Although the press plays its role but the complexities do still exist. The appealed donations are sometimes inadequate or received late. The outcome decisions are always disappointing. Even though the Welfare Ministry has various aid schemes, the aid schemes and the maximum allow rate is limited. Hence, this situation has encouraged the establishment of Yayasan Kebajikan Negara, Malaysia (YKN).
YKN has no fixed revenue and to ensure sufficient funds, thus YKN will always appreciate donations coming from individuals, private companies etc. All donations to YKN will be tax exempted as stated by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) through Government Gazette Bill. No.1069 dated 4th March 1982.
YKN is a charitable body under the duty of Minister of Women and Community Development. YKN is governed by a Board of Trustees pursuant to the Deed of Trust dated 18th June 1981 registered under the Trustee (Incorporation) Act 1952.
